Inscription. The Mark VII SDV began experimental service in 1967, and conducted its first mission off the coast of North Vietnam in June, 1972. It is a four-man, wet, submersible vehicle. It’s acoustic and magnetic signature is minimized by the use of non ferrous materials and a fiberglass hull. Sliding canopies over the forward and aft compartments provide easy access for personnel and payload and component removal during maintenance. Instruments and other electrical components are housed in air-tight containers. It has an integral compressed air life support and ballast system

This SDV carried a pilot, navigator, two combat swimmers, and a payload. Navigation was by instruments only: gyro compass, forward-looking obstacle-avoidance sonar, and depth recorder.

Erected by National Navy UDT-Seal Museum.
