— Former NASCAR Driver —
The 2018-19 Fourth grade class of Riverdale Elementary commissioned this wooden statue of Jeff Gordon, dedicated July 2019. The project was graciously funded by the Dekko Foundation and was crafted by our local artist, David Drake.
The class objective was to select and nominate famous historical people associated with Indiana. Although Gordon was born in California, he was raised in Pittsboro, IN. He is a four-time Sprint Cup champion (1995, 1997, 1998 & 2001). His 93 career wins ranks third all-time. Gordon retired from racing in 2015 and went into broadcasting. He is also the founder of Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation, which is dedicated to supporting pediatric cancer research.
