Inscription.
Hendon Hill Cemetery is the resting place of African American Citizens of Harford County. These individuals include civil war soldiers, housekeepers, laborers, children and founding members of the American Legion, Post #55 in Bel Air In 1873, Benjamin Hendon transferred 2 acre of property to the trustees of Ames Methodist Church for the purpose of establishing a cemetery for the "colored” people of Harford County. A "colored” school was also erected at this location. Hendon Hill cemetery records have not been located however historical research has identified 160 burials at this site. 70% of the lots are unmarked.
