Parroquia de Jesús Nazareno
Es un monumento histórico del municipio de Jocotitlán cuya construcción actual data del siglo XIX. Los antecedentes históricos del municipio son muy antiguos, se tiene conocimiento que hubo asentamientos humanos del ańo 200 al 600 de nuestra era.

A pesar del que no se tiene registro de la actividad humana de ańo 600 al 900, se tiene claro que, antes de la llegada de los conquistadores espańoles, Jocotitlán fue una población de predominancia mazahua, misma que, luego de la conquista fue entregada en encomien-da a Francisco de Villegas.

La fundación oficial de Jocotitlán tuvo lugar en 1540, cuando recibió la Cédula Real. Ańos después quedó como encargado de su curato Diego Nájera, personalidad que gozó del aprecio de los mazahuas por defender sus derechos y contribuir a su educación en las nuevas condiciones impuestas por la conquista. Nájera fue reconocido como apóstol de los mazahuas y por escribir "La Doctrina y Enseńanza en la Lengua Mazahua de cosas muy útiles y provechosas para los ministros de doctrinas y para los naturales que hablan la lengua Mazahua".

hoy, Jocotitlán conserva muchos elementos de la arquitectura colonial y de la época independentista, que pueden disfrutarse al visitar su centro de ciudad y, sobre todo su parroquia, impresionante edificio con una amplia fachada de piedra, de estilo arquitectónico sobrio pero no menos imponente.

En el interior del inmueble hay una placa que hace saber a los visitantes que las obras de esta parroquia iniciaron en 1575, lo cual es posible, si consideramos el proceso de evangelización luego de la conquista militar y la labor del cura Diego Nájera.

Parish of Jesús Nazareno
It is a historical monument in Jocotitlán whose ocurrent building dates from the XIXth century. The historical background of the village is very old, it is know that there were human settlements in the year 200 to 600 AD.

Although there is no record of human activity from 600 to 900, it is clear that, before the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors, Jocotitlán was a population of Mazahua predominance, same one thet after the conquest was given on entrust to Francisco de Villegas.

The oficial founding of Jocotitlán took place in 1540, when it received a Royal Warrant. Years later left in charge of the parish was Diego Nájera, character who enjoyed the esteem of the Mazahua people for defending their rights and

contributing to their education in the new conditions imposed by the conquest. Nájera was recognized as an apostle to the Mazahua and for writing "The Doctrine and Training in the Mazahua Language of very useful and helpful for ministries of doctrines and the indigenous who speak the Mazahua language".

Even today, Jocotitlán retains many elements of the colonial architecture and of the independence era, which can be enjoyed by visiting the city center and especially its parish, impressive building with extensive stone facade, a sober architectural style and yet no less daunting.

Inside the building there is a plaque that shows the visitors that the work of this parish began in 1575, which is posible, considering the process of evangelization after the military conque and the work of the priest Diego Nájera.
