Inscription on marker
Inscription. Dedicated to the U.S.N. Armed Guard and Merchant Seamen of W.W. II who served on ships, carrying the world to victory. In memory of The SS Blackpoint and crew, the last ship sunk in the Atlantic Theatre of War on May 5, 1945 by enemy action. She was torpedoed by the German Submarine U-853 in Lat 41.19.30 North and Long. 71.24.49 West 3.2 miles from Point Judith, Lighthouse, Rhode Island.

The Crew of the USS Atherton and USS Morberly sunk the German Submarine U-853 May 6, 1945. There were no survivors.
