1. William Poole Bancroft Memorial

Inscription. This memorial to
William Poole Bancroft overlooks that part of the Bancroft Farm given by him to the City in 1889. His offer of this land for a park inspired the purchase of the Brandywine Valley and other subsequently acquired for the city park system.

He was president of the Board of Park Commissioners 1904 - 1923.

A good citizen of a singular modesty and sincerity, his utmost thought of himself might have been expressed "I pray thee then, write me as one who loved his fellow men."

Erected 1937 by the City of Wilmington, Delaware.
