1. Chestnut Park Marker
Inscription. Chestnut Park was designed by landscape architect John F. Collins and dedicated on June 5, 1979 to celebrate the legacy of William Penn's "greene country towne." Sculptor Christopher Ray (1937-2000) drew inspiration for the Chestnut Street gate from the natural landscape of the Wissahickon Valley and depicted nearby tidal wetlands in the Ranstead Street gate. Native American totems are featured in the fountain. In 2010, Kieran Timberlake architects designed the renovation of the park. Chestnut Park is owned and maintained by the Center City District Foundation. The development and restoration of Chestnut Park was underwritten by the William Penn Foundation.
