Inscription.
In this memorial to the six million Jews who died in the Holocaust, you can see a wailing child, a suffering mother, and a man in prayer. There are symbols of resistance—fists clutching daggers—as well as images of hope and redemption. The overall form evokes the burning bush from the Book of Exodus, and the flames at the top suggest the menorah, a ceremonial candleholder.

The bronze sculpture was commissioned by the Association of Jewish New Americans and donated to the City of Philadelphia in cooperation with the Federation of Jewish Agencies of Greater Philadelphia.
