George Rohr's Saloon and Boarding House
In the mid-nineteenth century
Ossining was bustling industrial, commercial and transportation center; and this large, French Second Empire style building placed in the busiest intersection was a key architectural feature. Built in the early 1860s the building originally served as a saloon and boarding house. In the 1880s the upper floors housed the first free dispensary, a forerunner of the community's hospital. When the local hospital was built in the early 1900s the upper floors were then used as lecture and entertainment halls. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 but demolished in 1981.
