This aircraft was built by Lockheed in the early 1950s to demonstrate the operation of a vertical takeoff and landing fighter for protecting convoys.
Lockheed Chief Test Pilot Herman “Fish” Salmon piloted the first test flight on June 16, 1954.
This aircraft is only one of two prototypes and the only one that ever flew.
