1. St. George's Church Marker
Inscription. St. George's Church. Old Parish House and Graveyard. This notable Gothic Revival church is the congregation's third building on the site since 1746. The building's large size reflects the importance of Flushing as a major regional center in the 19th century. Erected in 1853-54, St. George's Church is a significant example of ecclesiological church architecture and a rare surviving work of notable architects, Wills and Dudley. Eccesiology was a philosophical reform movement that sought spiritual renewal by returning to the rituals and architectural forms of the medieval church. Additions include an 1894 chancel wing and a 1907 Neo-Gothic Parish House. Designed by prominent architect Charles C. Haight, the graveyard contains gravestones and memorials dating from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. .
