A renowned hospital with a place in history and a vision for the future

Founded in 1898, MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is one of the oldest academic teaching hospitals in the national capital region. Through MedStar Health's partnership with Georgetown University, we continue to offer world-class patient care, clinical training, and research.

MedStar Georgetown has accomplished many firsts:
• First adult-care hospital in D.C. to earn Magnet designation for excellence in nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
• Home to the only Comprehensive Care Center in the region and one of an elite group in the nation designated by the National Cancer Institute.
• Leading contributor to the development of the world's first anti-cancer drug (the HPV vaccine).
• First in the region to offer proton therapy – the most advanced form of radiation therapy for cancer.
• Home to the Globus ExcelsiusGPS – the first and only minimally invasive spine robot of its kind, made possible through philanthropic support.
• First hospital in the region to offer convalescent plasma therapy to treat COVID-19.
