Conservation success story
Once a critically endangered species in the United States due to the use of the pesticide, DDT, and over hunting, the bald eagle has since rebounded. The use of DDT was banned in 1972 and hunting of bald eagles was outlawed nationally. The species was officially removed from the federal list of endangered species in 1995.
Range: North America
Habitat: Commonly found in forested areas near larger bodies of water.
Diet: Fish, small mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and crustaceans.
Conservation Status: Least Concern
