Regarding Martin County Courthouse. The marker refers to the Works Progress Administration's 1937 addition to the original courthouse. The original section was built as a Palm Beach County schoolhouse in 1908 (Stuart then was in that county), but became a courthouse in 1925 when Martin County was created and Stuart became the county seat. The 1908 portion of the courthouse was demolished in the 1990s.
