Inscription. John Nash Read, a Revolutionary War patriot, moved to Rutherford County from Virginia in 1806. In 1810, he purchased 600 acres on the West Fork of Stones River. From the wilderness, his enslaved persons felled trees, hewed logs and built a house of worship on the west side of the river. He named the meetinghonse, Enon. In 1822, Read deeded two acres of his land, known as Templeton Grove, to this congregation. Enon Meeting House of the Baptist faith was destroyed during the Civil War.
