Inscription. This syrup kettle is believed to have been used at the McNeal Sugar Plantation in Brazoria County during the early to mid 1800's. The Clemens Unit now sits on what was once part of that plantation. During the 1950's to the 1960's, the Clemens Unit used the kettle for laundry on the turn row, but it was never used as part of the prison syrup mill.
