Inscription. In 1902, the U. S. Lighthouse Service authorized the construction of a boathouse on the Portage River to facilitate access by the Keeper to service the lighthouse located on the West Pier of the harbor entrance. When the lighthouse was removed in 1952, the boathouse was relocated to the adjacent park where it remained until 2010, when it was demolished. This boathouse is a replica built from original design drawings on file at the National Archives in Washington, D.C.
