Dedicated on Patriot's Day, 1911
the statue symbolizes the Republic
resting on the shield of the United States.
On the front of the memorial is a bronze relief
depicting the Union soldiers of the "Picket Guard"
while the 319 Spencer men who served in
the Civil War are listed on the sides
