Tin House / La Maison de Fer-Blanc
In early 20th century, tinsmith Honore Foisy advertised his trade by decorating the outside of his Lowertown Ottawa house, which stood a few blocks from here. When the house was demolished in 1961, the façade was saved and later reproduced by artist Art Price using original and fabricated parts. This one-of-a-kind façade, installed here in 1973 as public art, has become the artistic focal point of this courtyard that now bears its name.
Over time, exposure to the elements caused serious deterioration of the façade. In 2003, a heritage conservation project was undertaken to enhance this decorative ornamental landmark.
Avec le temps, l'exposition aux éléments occasionna des dommages considérables à l'œuvre. Ainsi, en 2003, un projet de conservation du patrimoine fut réalisé afin de mettre en valeur cet important point d'intérêt.
