1. Senator Robert "Bob" Venables Marker
Inscription.
For more than a quarter century, Senator Venables was an admired and influential legislator, serving 26 years in the Delaware General Assembly. During his many years as the co-chair of the state's Bond Bill Committee, he was able to garner support for many state parks projects including restoration efforts at Cape Henlopen's Fort Miles and the creation of the Trap Pond Nature Center. He also lead the efforts to install a new entrance road and parking lot adjacent to the Nature Center, and his support of Open Space funds for Trap Pond and the James Branch expansion was tremendous.

Senator Venables was born in Bethel, Delaware and lives just a short distance away from the park in Laurel and his wife Laura. He is an avid fisherman and frequently visits Trap Pond. In 2015, Department of Natural Resources and Environment Control Secretary David Small renamed the Loblolly Trail the Bob Trail in recognition of Senator Venable's long-term support of Trap Pond State Park.

Senator Venable's support of the Trails and Pathways initiative provided unprecedented investment in trail creation statewide. This patronage has helped Delaware to become the third most bike friendly state in the country, up from a ranking in the mid-30s just fie years earlier.
