1. History of Bangladesh Tea Industry Marker

Inscription. In 1840, a pioneer tea garden was established on the slopes of the hills in Chittagong. Then in 1855, the Assam indigenous tea plant was established in Chandghani Hills of Sylhet. First commercial tea garden was established in 1857 at Mulnichera in Sylhet. During the partition in 1947, Bangladesh (the then East Pakistan) owned 103 tea estates, covering 26,734 hectares of tea plantation.

Bangladesh Tea Growing Area:
Moulvibazar, Habigonj, Sylhet, Chittagong, Panchagarh are the main tea growing area in Bangladesh. Srimangal is known as the capital of tea growing area in Bangladesh. Surma Valley, Srimangal hills, Chandghani hills, Khasiand Jainta hills are covered with a lot of tea gardens and lush green tropical forests.
