The Flat Iron Building, also called the Pryor Building was built by Mr. William E.T. Smith in March and April of 1903. The building was constructed to replace the frame building used as a harness shop, which was destroyed in the catastrophic Mount Airy fire that occurred February 25, 1903. It burned again and was rebuilt in 1916. It has been home to a number of businesses and institutions including:
