Inscription.
A mobile and lightweight piece designed for rough terrain. Used primarily in the Western Theater during the Civil War. Some models featured a breakdown carriage that allowed the gun to be packed on mules. Batteries of mountain howitzers were popularly known to the troops as "jackass batteries."
