His factory produced about 900 wagons a year and thousands of ox yokes, saddle frames, and ax handles, all branded with "Hiram Young & Company" along with each purchaser's initials.
Many of Young's wagons traversed this road and this Big Blue River crossing in the 1800s. He is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Independence.
