The Lyon Family Home
The home, pictured above, was built by Jacob and Katie Schaetzel in 1881, on the northeast corner of 11th Street and Dakota Avenue. Jacob Schaetzel was village president, and later was elected as the first mayor of Sioux Falls. The Lyon family purchased the home in 1904, and moved it to this location in 1906. The home had been near Central School, but needed to be moved when the first phase of Washington High School was constructed in 1907-08. In 1983, the Raab family deeded the home to the City of Sioux Falls, and the house was moved to its current location (west Lotta Street) in 1988.

The Lyon family home was a source of inspiration for the 2013 redesign of Lyon Park. The planting beds located at this plaza outline the location and shape of the house's foundation. Also, the "carpenter gothic" features that can be seen on the trim work of the pictured house have been incorporated into the design of the new picnic shelter, located next to the playground area.
