Patrick Henry
Patrick Henry, 1736-1799, was a distinguished orator, lawyer, and politician. His famous words, "Give me liberty or give me death," urged Virginian militia to defend the colony against England. A member of the First Continental Congress, Patrick Henry was elected governor four times, organized men and materials for the Revolutionary War, and was influential in the adoption of the Bill of Rights.
In 1956 Patrick Henry Junior High School opened in the west side of the original Washington High School building with the two separate schools sharing four floors. The present building was constructed two years later. By 1973 Patrick Henry was the largest junior high school in the two Dakotas with a peak enrollment of 1416 students.
Patrick Henry became a middle school in 1991. It has a long history of academic excellence, student leadership, and parental involvement.
