People's Museum
People's Museum
The building is an outstanding construction, crowned by a balustrade, in which churchyard the stairs are located, which lead to the chapel with the Churriguerestic facade, dating from 1776. The artist Felipe de Ureña built it. In 1982 the artist José Chávez Morada started the interior decoration of the chapel. The first mural of a series of three, called the "Fractured Pilaster" symbolizes the rupture between the Spanish Viceroyalty Regime and the start of the Independence struggle. This chapel contained a rich baroque altarpiece, sold in the decade of the twenties of the last Century. As a project of the State's Administration to built-up a "Museographic Collection" in 1979, the People's Museum was established. On the first floor there are five halls dedicated to the pictorial collection of the XVIIIth and XIXth Centuries. You can see a beautiful niche of skillfully carved pink stonework, built into the left wall on the exterior of the museum. In these niche, an image of the Lady of the Grieves can be found, dating from the end of the XIXth Century.
