Inscription.   Ce square rend hommage à René Viviani (1863-1925), avocat et homme politique français. Député et sénateur socialiste, plusieurs fois ministre, il devient Président du Conseil en août 1914. À ce titre, il signe l'ordre de mobilisation générale, le 1er aout 1914. Cofondateur avec Jean Jaurès du journal L'humanité, il s'est d'abord battu pour la paix avant d'assumer la guerre durant les seize premiers mois du conflit. L'église Saint-Julien-le-Pauvre a été bâtie au XIIe siècle sur les fondations d'un ancien sanctuaire du VIe siècle.

Un robinier faux-acacia aurait été planté par le jardinier d'Henri IV, Jean Robin, en 1601, ce qui en ferait le plus vieil arbre de Paris.

This square pays homage to René Viviani (1863-1925), French lawyer and politician. A member of Parliament and socialist senator, and several times minister, he became President of the Council in August 1914. As such, he signed the general mobilization order on August 1, 1914. A false acacia locust is said to have been planted by Henri IV's gardener, Jean Robin, in 1601, which would make it the oldest tree in Paris.
