… Also, on the south side of the street is the Morris House, which Samuel Gardiner built in 1824. This building served as a tavern and inn from the 1820's through to the 1850's, when it was widely known as the Planters Hotel. When the hotel was sold in 1855 it was described as a house and acreage with stables and outhouses.
