Lebanon in Warren County, Ohio — The American Midwest (Great Lakes)
Old County Jail
Side A
Three Warren County Jails have been built near this spot. The first was in 1820, 15 years before the courthouse. It had two stories and four cells. It was replaced on the same location in 1844 by a six celled jail. One cell was used as a dungeon when needed. In 1889 the two story jail to the rear was built of brown sandstone.
Side B
Once considered a "model" jail, it had eight cells. The sheriff's residence was built in 1893 in the Richardsoniar Romanesque style. Its octagonal three story tower has sandstone on the first floor and yellow brick on the other two. The residence department was later used as the sheriff's department. A new county jail was opened in 1974.
