Protecting Houghton Creek
Reconnecting Habitat in the Rifle River Watershed
This timber bridge was built in 2015 to replace a culvert that was a barrier to fish passage. The project reconnected more than 5 miles of upstream habitat and has reduced the amount of sand and road salt entering Houghton Creek—proteting water quality for people and for wildlife.
• Streambank erosion control work at Rose City Park (2012)
• Installation of an underground stormwater treatment unit and rain gardens in Rose City (2014)
These projects are keeping water clean by reducing the amount of sand, oils and greases, bacteria and other pollution from reaching the stream.
Erected by Huron Pines.
