Eastern Border of the Sacred Center
Etapa VI
Eastern Border of the Casred Center
The Sacred Center of Tenochtitlan was a ceremonial space physically separated from the rest of the city by a low platform. According to calculations, the sides were 500 meters long.
The staircases are integral to the platform marking the eastern border of the ceremonial center. The platform and the stone-slab patio on which it was erected correspond to Phase VI, during the period of the Ahuitzotl government.
The patio holds vestiges of several Pre-Hispanic structures with traces of mural paintings. We can also observe elements from later times, such as the colonial and modern drainage pipes, some made of ceramic and others of asbestos, which empty into the sewer.
