Commonly known as the "Jeep", this model saw service in Vietnam and with National Guard units throughout the US. The M38A1 replaced the M38 (1949-52) and World War II period Willys MB and Ford GPW models becoming the last military derivative of the original 1941 Jeep. This model featured round front fenders, a contoured hood, a two- piece windshield, top mounted windshield wipers, and was powered by the new "Hurricane” F-Head engine and Warner T90 transmission. Willys manufactured 101,488 of the M38A1 Jeeps, 80,290 for the US military and the rest for civilian or foreign military markets. The M151 Truck that replaced this model possessed significant design changes to the suspension and interior space making the M38A1 "the last Jeep".

Every unit in the Louisiana National Guard used Jeeps like these.
