1. Little House on the Prairie Marker
Inscription. Because so few trees grow on the prairies, pioneers often cut soil into blocks and used the blocks like bricks to build their houses. The soil was held together by the matted roots of prairie grasses. These soil houses were nicknamed "soddies" and farmers who worked the prairies were called "sodbusters."
