King Cyrus of Persia defeated the Babylonians, allowing religious freedom and the return of the exiles. Some Jews returned, with the Jewish population of Palestine concentrated in Jerusalem.
Many Jews did not return, and this marked the beginning of the Jewish Diaspora. The Jews that did return began to rebuild the Temple. It was also during this period that the Bible was first codified.
Erected by Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden.
