1. Home of the First Pivot Irrigation System in Canada Marker
This pivot point and two towers are part of the first two water drive pivot systems introduced to Canada by Donald and Wyman Campbell. They arrived in the Burdett area on May 11, 1962 from the Valley Manufacturing Co., Valley, Nebraska, USA. The pivot point is part of the system installed on land owned by Donald Campbell. The towers are part of the system installed on land owned by Wyman Campbell. Both machines were in operation by May 21, 1962 and used continuously for 25 years.

Location. 49° 49.755′ N, 111° 31.281′ W. Marker is in Burdett, Alberta, in Forty Mile County. Marker is at the intersection of Crowsnest Highway (Provincial Highway 3) and Main Street, on the right when traveling west on Crowsnest Highway. Center-pivot irrigation is a method of crop irrigation in which equipment rotates around a pivot and crops are watered with sprinklers. A circular area centered on the pivot is irrigated,(Submitted on July 11, 2022, by Cosmos Mariner of Cape Canaveral, Florida.)often creating a circular pattern in crops when viewed from above. Center-pivot irrigation was invented in 1940 by farmer Frank Zybach, who lived in Strasburg, Colorado. In 1954, he licensed his patent to Robert Daugherty and his company, Valley Manufacturing. Daugherty's engineers spent the next decade refining Zybach's innovation.
