1. Pinery Narrows Marker
Inscription.
You are on the historic Station Road Bridge facing the Pinery Narrows, the Cuyahoga Valley’s thinnest point. Here the river is confined by hard, deeply cut bedrock. Its path is narrower and straighter than where it twists through loose glacial debris.

Also ahead of you is the Brecksville-Northfield High-Level Bridge, which carries Ohio Route 82 across the valley. The reinforced concrete bridge was built in 1931. It replaced the 1881 wrought iron Station Road Bridge on which you are standing.

This photo, taken from the north about 1907, shows Station Road Bridge and the railroad station (circle) that was historically in this location.

This photo shows the view looking north from here in the early 1900s. Notice the crossbar from Station Road Bridge (circle, the ripples in the Cuyahoga River from Pinery Dam, and no concrete arches overhead.

In 1931 area residents took day trips to admire the Brecksville-Northfield Bridge as it was nearing completion.
