Excerpt (in translation): "One of the most famous crimes committed in Madrid was the assassination of Juan de Escobedo, secretary of Juan de Austria. It was the year 1578 and King Felipe II himself was involved in its confusing plot....It happened on Calle de la Almudena, very close to the Alcázar where the monarch lived. The criminals managed to escape and eleven years later the so-called Prudent King acknowledged having given his consent to the murder."
