Misión de Santiago de Jalpan
Misión de Santiago de Jalpan fue fundada antes de la llegada de Junípero Serra en 1744, pero Serra fue el encargado de la construcción del complejo misión desde 1751 hasta 1758, la primera que se construyó. Está dedicada al apóstol Santiago, el primer evangelista. Está formado por un atrio, claustro, portal de peregrinos y la iglesia, con una capilla en el anexo del lado izquierdo. La pared del atrio original se perdió, pero fue reconstruida en el mismo estilo, con tres portales y arcos invertidos. Mission of Santiago de Jalpan
The Mission of Santiago de Jalpan was founded before the arrival of Junípero Serra in 1744, but Serra was in charge of the construction of the complex mission from 1751 to 1758, the first to be built. It is dedicated to the apostle James, the first evangelist. It consists of an atrium, cloister, pilgrim portal and the church, with a chapel in the annex on the left side. The wall of the original atrium was lost, but was rebuilt in the same style, with three portals and inverted arches. 2. Mission of Santiago de Jalpan and Marker
of the two cultures. The façade is made of stucco and stone. The ochre of the pilasters contrasts with the yellow of many of the decorative details. Many of the details imitate vegetables, along with small angels and along with little angels and eagles. European elements include images of saints, such as St. Dominic and St. Francis of Assisi and the Franciscan shield on the arms. Inside the door are the images of Saints Peter and Paul. Native elements include a mexican eagle with two tips devouring a snake. In the upper left there is an image of the Virgin of Guadalupe, and in the upper right, the Virgin of Pilar. These images of virgins from Mexico and Spain, respectively, were placed at the same level symbolizing the equality of forces of both worlds. Inside, the dome of the Jalpan mission contains scenes from the apparition of the Virgin of Guadalupe.
