Inscription. No one in need, or ill, ever lacked care or attention if Aunt Sarah knew about it. In 1891, Aunt Sarah was a practical nurse, midwife and a devout Quaker who was loved by all. She brought babies into the world, tended the sick, comforted the bereaved, and prepared bodies for burial. She was continuing the work of another Quaker, Eliza Parish, who had begun that good work decades earlier when Farmersville was still a new community. Dr. C. Cornell convinced Sarah to open up her house for use as a hospital to avoid the hard journey tp Brockville. Many operations were carried out there to the benefit of both patient and doctor.

Within a few years of starting the village's first drugstore in 1863, Dr Giles sold out to J. P. Lamb, a dentist, entrepreneur and future reeve of Athens. He expanded the business with his own line of patent medicines that became known far and wide. Others contributed to our rich history like the faith healer Arza Sherman and Mother Barnes with her natural remedies. Over the years, many talented and hard working country doctors have dedicated their lives to their community and to their patients. Today efficient and modern health care services are provided in Athens central community focused facility. The tradition of country medical care continues.
