1. Alpha Kappa Alpha Marker
Inscription. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was founded on January 15, 1908 on the campus of Howard University. Led by visionary leader, Ethel Hedgeman Lyle, 16 students founded the sorority on five basic tenets: to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among college women, to study and help alleviate problems concerning girls and women in order to improve their social stature, to maintain a progressive interest in college life and to be of 'Service to All Mankind'.

The Beta Epsilon Chapter was chartered on November 6, 1933 on the campus of Louisville Municipal College by six forward thinking women – Ruth Ella Tate, Eva May Glass, Margaret Ruth Durham, Lettie Louise Harris, Dorothy May Allen and Joel Pernice Pope.
