Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was founded on January 13, 1913 by 22 collegiate women at Howard University to promote academic excellence and provide assistance to those in need. The first public act performed by the Founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. involved their participation in the Women's Suffrage March in Washington D.C., March 3, 1913. Xi Chapter was chartered on April 15, 1922 at Simmons University by four women: Alzada Singleton, Eunice Singleton, Nannie G. Board, and Annie Louise Singleton-Newhouse. Xi Chapter is the oldest collegiate Greek organization in the state of Kentucky.
