1. Sigma Gamma Rho Marker
Inscription. Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated was founded on November 12th, 1922, on the campus of Butler University by seven young educators: Mary Lou Allison Gardner Little, Dorothy Hanley Whiteside, Vivian White Marbury, Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Hattie Mae Annette Dulin Redford, Bessie Mae Downey Rhoades Martin and Cubena McClure. Sigma Gamma Rho is the only Divine Nine sorority founded at a predominantly white institution. The Eta Omega Chapter was rechartered at the University of Louisville on July 28th, 1978 by four young women: Sandra Withers, Karen Wilcox, Mildred Scott and Bonny Kay Hayden. The first recognized chapter at the University of Louisville was the Delta Chapter in the 1930's.
