Inscription. This acre of land is one of the earliest sites of the Methodist Episcopal Church movement in the Shenandoah Valley. The land, donated to the Milburn Methodist Society by Reverend John Milburn, was home to the Milburn Meeting House and Milburn Cemetery. The oldest identifiable headstone is that of Rachel Ford who died in 1801. The last burials occurred around 1920. The remains of Reverend John Milburn (unknown-1813) are thought to be buried here. In 1944 the McCann family was loaned several German prisoners of war, including Paul Sternitzke, who was trained as a stone mason, to repair and reconstruct the front wall of the cemetery. Many of the original headstones have deteriorated over the years, and others were vandalized as the cemetery became neglected. In 1999 the Boy Scouts of Troop 46 at Emmanuel United Methodist Church took on maintenance of the cemetery as a continuing service project.

Erected by Emmanuel United Methodist Church and Boy Scouts of America Troop 46.
