1. Wagner Log House (Rose Tavern) Marker
Inscription. This Tavern, built by James Rose in 1835, originally stood along the old Maumee Pike (Route 20) west of Fremont. The condition of the mud-rutted road, through the edge of the Great Black Swamp, was so bad that few could travel a little more than a mile in one day. There were about 30 of these taverns between Fremont and Perrysburg. They were havens for bone- weary travelers on foot, on horseback, or in horse- drawn wagons.
