Une partie de la riche histoire de La Nouvelle-Orléans est enterrée sous nos pieds et incarnée dans la magnifique architecture de la ville. La zone entourant la rue Bassin en est un parfait exemple. Ce lieu fut témoin de l'origine de la musique jazz ainsi que de la naissance de Storyville, un quartier de salles de jeux et de maisons closes, à la fin du 19e et début du 20e siècles. En 1917, avec la fermeture du quartier Storyville, l'ambiance et l'apparence du quartier furent vite transformées. Les immeubles furent démolis dans les années 1930 pour faire place au Iberville Housing Development. Aujourd'hui, un nouveau développement, le Bienville Basin, représente très bien la saveur de ce quartier dont l'histoire est à la fois complexe et captivante.
