Inscription.
Phillips Lee Goldsborough was born in 1865 the son of Martin Worthington and Henrietta Maria Jones Goldsborough. He married Ellen Showell of Berlin, MD.

Mr. Goldsborough was educated in Dorchester County, studied law with Daniel M. Henry, Jr., and was admitted to the bar in 1886. He was elected States Attorney in 1891 and 1895 and became Comptroller of the State of Maryland in 1897. While at the head of this office for two years, the finances of the State were never managed more judiciously or satisfactorily to all the people of the State, irrespective of party or corporate organizations. He published the Dorchester Standard and later became Chairman of the Republican State Central Committee.

Phillips Lee Goldsborough served as Governor from 1912-1916. After serving his term as governor, he became President of The National Union Bank of Maryland and chairman of the Baltimore Trust Company from 1917-1928. From 1929-1935 he served as United States Senator.

The Hon. Phillips Lee Goldsborough died October 22, 1946.
