Inscription.
Governor Henry Lloyd was the son of Daniel and Catherine (Kitty) Henry Lloyd. He was born on February 21, 1852. In 1886 he married Mary Elizabeth Stapleforte with whom he had one son Henry Lloyd, Jr.

Henry Lloyd graduated from the Cambridge Academy. He studied law under Daniel M. Henry and Judge Charles P. Goldsborough.

Mr. Lloyd was a teacher and principal in Dorchester County. After being admitted to the bar in 1873 he practiced law in Cambridge. He was an auditor of the court from 1875-1881, served in the Maryland Senate from 1884 becoming the president of the Senate in 1884. The Maryland Legislature elected him to become acting governor to complete the term of Gov. Robert McLane following his resignation in 1885. In 1886 Governor Lloyd became governor until 1888. He served as an associate justice of the First Judicial Circuit from 1892-1908.

Governor Henry Lloyd died on December 30, 1920. Governor Henry Lloyd's monument reads:

"The strife is o'er, the battle done. The victory of life is won. The song of triumph has begun. Requeiscat in Pace."
