Inscription.
This boulder marks the junction
of the Chicago Turnpike, running
between Detroit and Chicago
-an Indian trail prior to 1700-
with the Monroe Turnpike,
coming from Lake Erie.

The old Walker Tavern-
built in 1833 and still standing on
this corner-a famous wayside inn
where James Fenimore Cooper
and family, Daniel Webster, Harriet
Martineau and other notables
stayed at various times.
