French Quarter in New Orleans in Orleans Parish, Louisiana — The American South (West South Central)
Storyville Structures
In 1917 the U.S. government closed Storyville in concert with a nationwide order. Three of the original Storyville buildings remain today: Lulu White's saloon on Basin Street, Frank Early's My Place saloon on Bienville Street, and Joe Victor's saloon on St. Louis at N. Villere (oldest of the three). These 19th and 20th century buildings have seen their community evolve around them. The rhythmic sounds of jazz music and lively antics of Storyville eventually gave way to more subdued uses.
